Dave Ferman

The track getting the most attention from this folk/pop singer's major-label debut is David Duchovny, her sweetly funny love song to The X-Files star. The rest of this 11-song CD verges between being pleasantly reminiscent of dozens of other guitar-strumming young women and quietly bracing in the way Sharp shows herself as a lonely, pensive person trying to figure out what to do with her life, unable to find lasting relationships. Not Your Girl and Walk Away are perhaps the most well-defined, but in general Cheap is very promising. ***
