Sure, "David Duchovny," the wittly obsessive mash note to the X stud is the standout single here. But, on Girl's best tracks ("Smitten," "Not Your Girl") 23-year-old Sharp, with her edgy Natalie Merchant voice, shows a knack for catchy, clever rockers. Cheap is littered with burnt-out hearts and "nasty puns," but underneath its jaded fatalism lurks a hopeful romantic.

  Grade: B
