"David Duchovny," a clever and catchy ode to Fox's foxy Fox Mulder, deserved to be this summer's novelty hit. But it runs just 4:06, which means Sharp has 10:54 left on her allotted 15 minutes of fame. Unfortunately, there's no other track on her debut with the same snap or media-savvy charm. Mostly this is Teflon-slick, sassy female retreads, sung by yet another whiny Alanis clone. "Smitten" is another tune of unrequited love, but without the brand-name recognition; "Not Your Girl" sounds like something from a new wave obscurities compilation; the title track proves that emulating the film noir attitude of Elvis Costello's "Watching the Detectives" doesn't mean you can match it. Oh yeah, and her name sounds like a ripe cheese.
