Though it's not yet been officially released, newcomer Bree Sharp's
catchy-as-hell ode to the X-Files' David Duchovny (titled, appropriately,
"David Duchovny") is already generating the sort of media buzz more established
singers would kill for. Sources report that a cameo-riddled video of the song,
made by Duchovny's associates, is circulating in the celebrity underground, but
Sharp herself has yet to meet the object of her affections.
"I know he's heard the song," says the New York-based Sharp, "but I haven't
spoken with him yet. I'm still waiting, but I'm totally psyched that he got the
song. My sources tell me he's been playing it to death, and that he really loves
it. What more could a girl ask for?"
According to Sharp, "David Duchovny" reflects the overall flavor of her debut
album, A Cheap and Evil Girl, which is scheduled for release on Trauma Records
in late July. ("It's sort of a big, pop-rock album," she says.) Regarding the
onslaught of attention that's sure to come her way when "David Duchovny" hits
the radio airwaves next month, the 23-year-old says she's guardedly prepared.
"The truth is I'm young, and I've never been a rock star, or had that kind of
attention. I've never experienced any of that, so I'm eager and excited, but at
the same time I have a healthy sense of caution."
